Archive for January, 2010

During the last years, Death to the throne has made some stunning remixes for Chromeo, M83, the XX and Lykke Li, just to name a few of them. This time he brings us I only have eyes for you, an original with the same characteristics as his remixes, melodic electronica with nu rave influences without being too much. The remixes always make people go mad and I’m sure that I only have eyes for you also will.

#150 blame it on the girls

Starsmith has made a 360 with Mika’s Blame it on the girls, I can’t stand the original but thanks to the remix is one of my favourite tracks at the moment.

Today is Justice day, a preview of what’s left to come was sent out last night and it seems like it’s the only thing people are talking about today. I remember when I heard We are your friends and D.A.N.C.E for the first time, when I saw them live at Primavera Sound in 2007 and when the album came, I loved it. It was something innovative and fun and I hoped that they would have done it again when I saw the track this morning but no. Beginning of the end is a typical Justice track, it’s cool and well made but it sounds more like a leftover from than something fresh.

I’ve never been a big fan of Groove Armada but it seems like things are changing. First out was I won’t kneel and now Shameless and Paper Romance, all three from their upcoming album Black Light. They write on their Myspace blog that  “Black Light is the best music we’ve ever made” and I’m looking forward to the release in March.

Remixmaster Russ Chimes has done it again, his remix on Ellie Goulding’s Starry eyed is HUGE. The piano is mean, it’s killing everything in its way… I’m gonna play it every time I’ll get a chance to and I think I can already say that it’s gonna be on my best of 2010… Needless to say more, it’s fucking brilliant.

Bryan Ferry has done some really interesting collaborations lately, first the vocal on Dj Hell’s you can dance, a track that’s been around for a time and that will be officially released this days. Carl Craig has done an amazing remix that I think’s gonna be played a lot this spring.  Melodic, not too hard and a smooth vocal, for me it’s techno at its best. The other collab is Shameless, a song that Ferry has co-written with Groove Armada. It isn’t hard to notice that the old man has done more than only the vocal, it feels like a classic Bryan Ferry track, just with a little more bass. I’ve had it on repeat for the last  days and it feels like one of those tracks that I won’t get tired of, ever.
